Patient Story 2

A resident of the outskirts of Lahore, a 2-year-old baby who enjoyed playing with her siblings. Suddenly, her world changed. The parents noticed that she was repeatedly falling and unable to see things. Her parents, a poor laborer and homemaker, took her to the local district hospital, and after a checkup in the eye department at the public hospital, she was found to have an advanced eye tumor in both eyes. Immediate chemotherapy started, but the tumor in the right eye was very advanced, and the eye could not be saved, and the eye was removed. Now our only hope was residual vision in the left eye; the tumor was not responding to intravenous chemotherapy. In resistant cases, intra-arterial chemotherapy can be tried as a breakthrough treatment, but the treatment is very expensive and needs endovascular expertise. The patient was referred to our team, and we have performed the procedure with minimal expense and with the help of our own zakat fund. The procedure was a success, and we were successful in saving the vision of a child who has only one working eye. Now she can see the world and lead a normal life.
